Letters to the Editor

In response to Anonymous (1:6),

I have to say that after reading the New DFC, I think it is missing something and the Spurian Spectator is a better paper. I feel that the Spectator keeps the people wanting for more while the DFC leaves a flat taste in my mouth.

The DFC and Spectator cover two totally different worlds. The DFC is for stories and tales. Leave the Spectator to cover the daily happenings of Spur. I love both papers, and they can work well together. But if "anonymous" has a bad taste in his or her mouth about the DFC, they can quit complaining, spit it out, and write their own story to contribute.

-Anonymous II

I am just writing to express my disgust in this recent trend towards nudity amongst any of the mammals I see in and around the TSC. There are some things that I wish never to see, and unfortunately just about every time I turn around, someone is displaying them, sometimes uncomfortably close to my person. I myself reject clothing ... but I am a reptile, and don't suffer from the vulnerability and visibility that most of the mammalian races do. In short ... cover up! For the sake of my stomach if nothing else.

Xirawyn Irynzai

Blister's Buzz

Tattooist Zaco Detaco was at the Festival, but his brother, Paco was nowhere to be found. When asked, Zaco whined, "Paco jus gone, he no tell Zaco." Soon after, Paco did show up! Only to my dismay, it wasn't Paco..but Raco Detaco.

The Thugian bully, Eyebrows was executed by Meqetlh the other day. He was being executed for two murders upon the Flerian Nalistron. Eyebrows's explanation for his crimes was, "Me kilt him for bein a little runt!"

The Drake, Danetus has gone on a Thief killing spree, in an effort to get her stolen money back. She's been a danger to a few, but not too original. Thief expert panelists calculate she'd continue with it for a maximum of two weeks.

Here's one for ya, gossip of the gossipers! Last week, one of our reporters was in the shadows and heard Kyrinne talking to Serrinna about some of our favorite citizens, Michael'a and Kymberlee. Kyrinne commented on Kymberlee Nightstorm not being a Secian, but a Gobbie. Next they further discussed that Michael'a gave the Imperial Council a bad image, and even something about Michael'a, Kymberlee, and an Inn (We are a classy paper, so we will not go into details).
Shame, shame on all of you!

Cleric Zangief has proclaimed her love to the Hithual, Anvil and is supposedly engaged. Although, by the Tome of Honor, Cleric was Khat'sara'd to Frey Zangief and still is. A Khat'sara bond can never be broken, or so we thought.

The Secian, Goldenhands was made a devoted follower by the Goddess, Rinanni and also was made a field rezzer.

In relation to the recent theft of the Jail keys, Jail breakout, Sweetie Niftyswift was recently ambushed by Sir Katze Offaces. While she was hugging Rumor after a hunting trip, the honorable Knight leapt from the shadows and cut Sweetie's throat from behind, leaving Rumor full of blood and a corpse. Sir Meqetlh specifically gave orders to only kill the Wanted suspects in self-defense. It's quite obvious that Katze feared Sweetie's hulking, muscular, and dangerous figure. In fear and panic, he reacted frantically and killed her from behind. We here at Spectator sincerely hope Katze has survived this trauma...

One of our own reporters was in the shadows of TSC when he overheard an assassination in the process! Our reporter told us he heard Nalpac saying, "That Usil better run....I would not be upset if accidents happened to him..." It was later learned that this Usil was Teranus Loremaster, Head of the Sages' Guild. The Hithual Headflinger agreed to consider it as long as he paid well, the honorable Odarian-like Nalpac went further to discuss possibilities of mugging the Usil. Nalpac ended the conversation with, "Credibility has meaning in this town, he better not get it." Was it jealousy? Political Greed? Hatred? Any matter, assassins and their employers may wish to be more discreet in the future (Come on, give us a challenge!).

Governor hopeful Vendui Hillimorri has been gathering support from anti-LoC groups in his efforts to become our new governor. Numerous death threats have been laid against him, but he has remained firm in his beliefs and his efforts. Although, from what we hear Merlin doesn't have any plans to give up control.

A week ago, a strange visitor arrived through a stranger magickal gate of some sort. Lord Mage Venoius arrived in town square informing Lord Knight Meqetlh that the governor has ordered him to repay certain coffers extended to reward the capture of Nemiyah Niftyswift. The Mage seemed rather disgruntled about doing the governor's collections, and when asked he stated that he was on the Council of Mages. Upon his exit, the Drag-al Blastur (Smart as Smakem) decided to try ripping the Mage's hair off. The Lord Mage's face grew a brighter red then a drunken Hithual's nose! A massive ball of earth came out of nowhere, and before it could hit, a nearby Dread Knight attacked Venoius, and the ball came crumbling to the ground. With assistance from Meq, he lived through the ordeal and exited through an earthen gate.

Recently, I was able to goto a charades contest held by the elusive, mysterious, and silly Murdach the Adventurer! The highlight of the contest was the impersonation of a Drake (Breathing, sleeping, eating, and hugging Secians). The winners were Berial, Cleric, and Tanarra all received three tokens each. No one went home a loser, Murdach gave away a golden medal to each and every one of us!

The Pride members have been in a rather grumbly mood lately (Well, they are always). The Thief community delivered a violent blow to the Pride and it's coffers. Recently, it was opened to find nothing but a Setite amulet. Due to their embarrassment, they've tried to keep it quiet and not admit it.

The Firian Elf, Oakleaf recently tried raiding a thief hideout in attempts to capture him for the reward, but apparently wasn't successful as Changeman is still walking free. As Oakleaf was seen walking down the streets naked still with cut off ears...

And finally, a small conflict between the Gobbie Guzzle, and Drake Titanium erupted into an all-out declared war between the Taathians and Dragons, with the healers and Rinannians desperately trying to keep everyone in good health. Last night, the declared 'fight' took place with the first victim being Thragnar, after a mob of Taathians surrounded him. Soon after, many more Dragons followed and joined the party. Of course the Leuians didn't want to be outdone in battle, and were sending limbs flying here and there. Meanwhile, this reporter saw Serrinna getting tossed about like a rag-doll trying to defend people. The best word to describe it all was chaos, and I think many of the shadier types enjoyed this. Half of 'em didn't know who they were fighting and why. Soon, the Justice Pure showed up, angrier then ever. Some of his other party-poopers came along to enforce peace and order in the city and all involved in the attack were either banished for one night or had to spend the night in jail.

This week, once again our featured guild is the forester's guild. With Rumor Dreamsbane (who insists upon being known as a San to his guild) struggling for the spot at guildmaster. While Kithrael seems to be retaining his spot easily, the amount of time it took Rumor to pass his other guildbrothers and sisters should be fair warning. Keep up the good work, foresters!

Gladiator's Gossip
Gladiator Gus

When I was just a young gladiator my father told me of some of the legends of the arena: Sordum the big giant glowing head who would defeat whole teams with mere thoughts, Tenser the mighty Drake power and cunning in equal measure, Borus the Thugian and his giant ball and chain, Blace the Lizard who single handedly won a race game, and many many others too numerous to name in this humble column. I have had the honor of fighting with and against many of these great names and let me say that the tales do not match up well to actually seeing them in action. It is truly a rare privilege when one of these old warriors graces the arena. Tuesday night at the arena four valiant names who have seen many seasons, Lobos the Arachnian Executioner (who my mother told me tails of to keep me on the straight and narrow), Marlos, and Spurs most powerful couple Sammeth and Purrkinn Offaces made a rare appearance at the nights events. The capacity crowd was as excited as the young gladiators were to be in the presence of such greatness. More than one young gladiator soiled his armor as Lobos ceremonially placed his many gladiator rings around his legs.

The first match of the night was a four team round robin tourney. Captains were Lord Grachus, Sir Stanrar, Lord Armonius, and Saryna the drake. In many of these round robins the first round match-ups are often the most crucial. This was certainly the case on Tuesday as Team Grachus with Alazam, Lucianar and Frith faced off against team Saryna with Caldron, Gruber, and Lucke in one match and Team Stanrar with Lobos, Tylar and Thundax facing Team Armonius with Jedaka, Thug and Salavdore. Team Saryna easily defeated an apparently unorganized Team Grachus while Team Stanrar won a victory over Team Armonius. Saryna built on that momentum and swept to victory struggling just a bit with team Stanrar in the last match. Team Grachus recovered from their early defeat and finished 2-1 for second place.

Tasem then followed up the round-robin with a race game. The gladiator's grumbled mightily as the dragons were given not only their traditional allies the Secians but the powerful Arachnians and the Humans as well. The Leuians group strong as it was could not match the webbing power of that group. The glowies the other traditional power in race games were paired with the Elves, Thugians and Anthians and were eliminated very early. The last group consisted of the Hithuals, Drag-als, and Monits they hung around for quite some time but in the end were no match for the Dragons.

The final contest of the night was a Spy Game. Teams were captained by the exiled Guzzle (claiming asylum in the sanctity of the arena), Caldron, Lucke, Banath and Jaeger. Guzzle's team stars were Phrenic, Jedaka and Anvil, while Caldron had Saryna, Thundax and Gruber, Lucke countered with Santos, Lobos, and Renshi, Banath selected Katze, Litorth and Rixinon, while Jaeger took Sammeth, Marlos, and Thug. The action was restrained for the first few minutes of the match as teams jockeyed for the right opening while running around the arena. In the end the victory belonged to team Caldron. Spies for the night were Anvil, Lucianar, Renshi, Verbaniah and Thug.

Gus's Stars of the Night:

1st Star (tie) Saryna and Caldron
3rd Star Gruber

Sagely wisdom of the Gods
Submitted by Anonymous

This is information on the gods straight from the Goddess Calyx.

Word has it that Goddess Calyx is the strongest God in the world. According to her, Odarous is just a pansy, and she tackled him just the other day! In his spare time, he supposedly plays with dolls and has tea parties with Rinanni. Meanwhile, while Rinanni is not with Odie, she is off reading in her huge library with containing thousands of books.

On another note, Unknown supposedly runs around naked. He reportedly comes down to the "mortal" world disguised as a Hithual and streaks among us normal people. Along with Unknown down and around, Taath burns villages and eats small children, hope he never accidentally burns a village where Unknown is streaking!

When asked what Set does with his spare time, it was said that he is really a tree hugger, and that he spends a lot of his time with Elindale, he has a thing for her and her sheep supposedly. And Elindale, when asked what Elindale does in her free time, Calyx exclaimed, "You don't want to know!"

And Sa you may ask? Well, Sa supposedly makes Drag-als all day, and when he is not doing that, he just "messes with magick," according to Calyx.

And what do all the gods do when they get bored? Sleep!
